Blue Ribbons Pitching Ravaged by Gilley
|
Speaking with reporters after a dominating hitting performance, Anthony Gilley said his club's tilt with the Pabst Blue Ribbons "felt almost like batting practice." The 19-year-old first baseman went a remarkable 5-for-6 at the plate.
"I saw the ball well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted," he recalled later.
However, his sensational day wasn't enough for the Lincoln Continentals, who were topped by the Blue Ribbons, 12-11.
"It's a good lesson for him, I guess," Continentals manager Les Williamson said. "Sometimes Anthony is going to lose. But I would rather him go 5-for-6 and lose than go 0-for-6 and lose."
Anthony Gilley singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
This season, Gilley is batting .376 with 64 hits, 13 home runs, 49 RBIs, .476 OBP and has scored 47 runs.
