A jubilant Mack McIntosh joined the postgame press conference at White Knights Ballpark to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Schlitz Tallboys pitching staff he had just vanquished.

"It may not have looked like it," said the U.S. Marine Corps Fighting Leathernecks shortstop, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."

That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 18-8 Fighting Leathernecks win.

"He made it look easy," said Ismael Valéncia, manager of the Tallboys. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."

Mack McIntosh grounded out in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Dustin Peppers in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Dylan Melchor in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Ryan Wyman in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Iván Rivera in the 8th.
