League Punishes Pair for Fighting Wednesday, February 23rd , 2061 Yesterday at Mortars Stadium Javier Gonzáles and Mushanokoji Yamada got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Chevrolet Chevys and Staples Staples. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Gonzáles will have to sit out 4 while Yamada would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Gonzáles has collected 53 hits for the Chevys this year, 11 of them home runs. He has also netted 32 RBIs and scored 31 runs while batting .296. So far in 11 appearances this season, Yamada has recorded no wins and sustained 2 losses. He has pitched 43 innings, yielded 43 hits, fanned 61 and has a 6.28 ERA. |
