Carolino Hits for the Cycle
Sunday, February 18th , 2063
António Carolino did everything he could for the Microsoft X-Sox -- literally.
The 18-year-old first baseman hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the X-Sox, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Gillette Razors, 38-29, at Field of the Sheepdogs.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Carolino reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Carolino banged out 6 hits in 6 at-bats and totaled 5 runs batted in and 6 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
António Carolino hit a two-run home run off Ben Miller in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, walked in the 7th, walked in a run in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
In 43 games Carolino is hitting .379 this season with 67 hits, 10 home runs, 51 RBIs, 36 walks, .488 OBP and has scored 48 runs.
