Icaza Socks It to Contracting, Cracks 5 Hits
Monday, February 27th , 2062
After a 5-hit effort to lead Pfizer's 24-8 victory over the A2O Contracting, second baseman José Icaza told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the High School All-Star Teams-level is really something special."
The 14-year-old player earned his accolades at Spurs Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-7 game against the Contracting.
"His swing is getting there," said Blues skipper Kurt Ginley, who spoke glowingly of Icaza after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. José did that to perfection."
José Icaza singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, struck out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and doubled in the 9th.
This year, Icaza is hitting .273, produced 12 RBIs and 1 home runs, scored 16 times and gotten on base at a .380 rate.
